It is a subtropical citrus that prefers high temperatures, with high summer humidity and average annual temperatures of 19-22°C.

It is a winter fruit that blooms in April and is harvested in January.

​

Currently, the main production areas are Guangdong and Fujian provinces in China, central and northern Taiwan, Yakushima Island and Amami-Oshima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture in Japan.

​

Its most distinguishing feature is its ineffable, one-of-a-kind scent.
